Privacy policy

Last updated 4 September 2026

MarksPulse records attendance, marks, homework and fees for private tutoring. Most of what it holds is about children, and this page says plainly what is stored, who can see it, how long it is kept, and how to have it deleted.

What we collect

Account Email address, your role, display name, phone number, language, and the governorate, city and area you choose. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication and are never visible to us or to your teacher.
Student profile Name, sex, school year, the student's phone if given, and the parent's name and phone. Sex is used only to place a student in the right group and to filter a roster; it is never a permission.
Records Attendance, exam marks, homework outcomes and fee payments, each written by the teacher the student is enrolled with.
Notifications A device token per signed-in device, so an absence or an announcement can reach the phone. Removed when you sign out of that device.
Activity log A record of privileged actions — who changed what, and when. A teacher can see when his own tenancy's data was acted on.

There is no advertising in MarksPulse, no advertising identifier is collected, and nothing is sold or shared with data brokers.

Who can see it

Children

A student profile is created and owned by a parent, or by a teacher and then claimed by a parent using a code the teacher hands over. Only the owning account may edit it, and ownership can be transferred — which is how a student eventually takes over his own record.

Students are never shown a class ranking. They see the class average and their own result, because a rank tells a child something about the others that is none of his business.

How long we keep it

The app holds one academic year. At the end of each year a tenancy's records are exported to a spreadsheet, that file is verified, and then attendance, marks, homework, fees and announcements are permanently deleted from the app. Nothing is deleted before the export has been read back and confirmed.

The activity log is kept beyond that, because it is the record of who did what — including of the deletion itself.

Where it is stored

On Google Firebase, in Google's europe-west1 region (Belgium). Google acts as our processor. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Google.
